MENOPAUSE

Peri-Menopause

At some point in our life, all females will go through menopause, whether it's early onset or in later years. Everyone has different experiences but a common response is that it's one of the worst things they have experienced...….eek, even after child birth!

Peri-menopause (shortly before menopause) or menopause can cause:

  • Hot flushes

  • Insomnia

  • Night sweats

  • Aches and pains

  • Anxiety

  • Irritability / mood swings

  • Headaches

  • Weight gain

As women approach menopause, the production of the ‘female’ hormones by the ovaries (ie. progesterone & oestrogen) begins to slow down. Hormone levels typically fluctuate and you may start to notice changes in your menstrual cycle, such as:

  • cycles can become longer, shorter or totally irregular

  • bleeding may become lighter

  • bleeding can become heavy / unpredictable

Eventually, your hormone levels will fall to a point where the ovaries no longer release eggs, menstruation (periods) cease altogether and the menopause is reached.

As Naturopaths, we don't use bio-identical hormones such as Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) to manage menopause, instead treating the symptoms & underlying cause.
